Chapter 84: Ambush

The whole battle was a total disaster.

Xu Yue kept chasing after any of the four men but they avoided her like a plague. Earlier she almost managed to kill one of them with a quick combo but her target was rescued by his buddies.

"Miss Xu! Run away! We can't beat the—"

One of her party members tried to warn her but before he finished, his face was splashed by a rock gauntlet. All of her men kept turning into pixels one by one until only eight players were left. They were stalling the boss but then got trapped between two forces ready to slay them.

"Now it's your turn~" the Star face announced as they ran towards the last targets.

Xu Yue already knew this battle was a lost cause. When it came to melee battles, unless someone trained in real life, they would be easily outperformed by martial artists. Many players were just normal students or adults who had no experience with combat.

Watching the brutal scene, she couldn't help but make a conscious decision to let go of the Field Boss and run. It would be fine if it was just one or two of them but Xu Yue couldn't fight against all four of them at the same time. Liu Ye was nowhere in sight so that was her only choice to survive.

'Come on, pick up…' Xu Yue thought anxiously as she called Liu Ye before jumping out of the waterfall cave. She rolled in the shallow waters of the pond and began to run towards the closest City.

Too bad, she didn't run away far when she heard three splashes of water as the three men followed closely behind her. "Where are you going, Miss? We are not done with you yet!"

"Fuck," Xu Yue cursed just as her call connected.

"I'm like two minutes away, where are you?" Liu Ye questioned in her mind.

"I'm running towards you. They are chasing me," Xu Yue muttered quietly as she ran at full speed. "Three of them behind me, one is still killing my group."

She looked behind mid-air while jumping down from a boulder and added, "They are faster than me. They will catch up in a minute."

"Can you shoot a fireball in the sky? I want to see where you are at," Liu Ye suggested and she didn't hesitate, firing up as far as she could. The area was filled with small mountains, rivers, and forests so she didn't expect him to see anything yet he surprised her.

"Okay, I can see you. Run to my location," Liu Ye ordered calmly as he sent her the map. "When you reach a blockade in around ten seconds, turn left and run up between the two boulders. Lure them inside the small valley."

Xu Yue was about to question him, not recalling any valleys in the area but then she found a giant boulder blocking her way. She finally saw Liu Ye on the map and felt an unusual relief in her heart.

"Did you cheat on your P.E. classes? Why are you so slow?" Xu Yue called out behind in disdain and turned left. She had to climb on natural stone steps before entering into a narrow pathway.

Huh?

Before she knew it, Xu Yue found herself in a complete dead end, surrounded by stone walls from all sides. When she tried to contact Liu Ye, he had already hung up, leaving her alone.

The sounds of laughter came right after as three players blocked the only exit. "You were so cocky just a moment ago but ended up trapping yourself. That's so unfortunate."

Their leader with a star scar on his face was left behind with the boss but Xu Yue knew how to lure him as well.

"Oh, really? Do you think I would deliberately come here without any plan?" Xu Yue questioned playfully and brushed her hair back with confidence. "I'm not trapped here with you. It's the opposite."

Her words caused the three men to look around carefully. "You have some skills but that's not enough to take us down."

"Well, you better call for your boss cause I'm taking at least two of you down with me," Xu Yue replied as fire daggers burst out from her fists. "I recently leveled up and my inventory is empty, so you will get nothing from me. On the other hand, I will enjoy burning your faces to the ground."

Despite looking confident before, the men suddenly lost their eagerness and one of them pulled out their profile. "If it was just us, we would simply kill you for exp but now that we called our boss, this won't end so easily."

Xu Yue simply ignored them, happy to stall for some time. She didn't know what exactly Liu Ye wanted to do but she trusted his skills. If he was able to kill White Knights and steal their Field Boss, those four bitches wouldn't be an issue.

Huh?

Just as she thought about it, she noticed something weird happening with the ground. It began to grow softer as if taking in water. She only took a short side glance at the walls and saw water slowly dripping down from the walls.

It was hard to notice at first sight since everything in the Waterfall Valley was soaked in water but she could feel the ground underneath her filling up. Knowing Liu Ye was a Waterbender, it was obviously his doing.

"Why are you doing this?" Xu Yue questioned, trying to distract them before they discovered it. "Do you enjoy killing and ruining other people's fun?"

"Fun you say?" one of them repeated with a dry laugh. "Maybe for you it's fun but for us it's training. All players are simply mobs and training dummies for us."

"Oh really? I guess we are quite similar then," Xu Yue replied casually. "The only difference is that I kill a lot in real life."

She expected them to be taken aback but they took it with a shrug as if it was nothing. Only people who lived in a similar environment like hers would not even react to her words.

Xu Yue was about to question them more when she was cut off by the star face's voice from a distance. "Well, well, well, what do we have here? Thanks for calling me, boys. I wouldn't want to miss this chance to play with her."

He walked into the passage and began to ogle her. "Miss Xu, how about you take off your outfit and grace us with your body? I might let you go if you entertain us like a good girl."

Xu Yue cringed. "Is this how you picked up your boys at the gay club? To think that it worked and you got yourself a nice foursome. Amazing."

The three men immediately frowned as they geared up to battle but Star face only laughed. "You are spicy, I like it. I wish I could meet you in real life so you can say that to my face. Maybe it will happen in the future. We will hear how you trash talk at that time."

"Do you think you can threaten me? I kill scummy men like you every other day," Xu Yue called out but star face only giggled unbothered.

He covered his fists with water and announced, "I like how you can respawn every time you die. You should watch out where you are going cause this is not the last time we will meet. I will enjoy hunting you down a few more times for the words you just said."

"Are you sure I will be the one being hunted down?" Xu Yue asked back as she pointed behind them. "Look behind you."

"Do you think I will fall for that trick?" Star face rolled his eyes only to freeze when he heard a male voice behind them.

"I hope you had fun playing this game because you are not going to enjoy it from now on."

Xu Yue's eyes shone with light when she saw Liu Ye walk coolly in a sexy Red Dragon outfit. She got excited but quickly calmed herself down, leaving the enthusiasm for later.

Her confidence skyrocketed to the roof after seeing Liu Ye's stats and already saw the four men as dead men.

"Oh, what a coincidence. Is this not the famous Grind God?" Star face questioned while pretending to be calm but one could see he got tense. "It just happens that we wanted to meet with you later. To think that you would come to us by yourself."

Star face glanced at his party and added, "Boys, you know what to do."

They didn't hesitate and suddenly lunged forward at Xu Yue with their fists ready. Too bad, they didn't even make a few steps when a sudden blue sparrow flew past them and sat on Xu Yue's shoulder.

Xu Yue was readying herself for battle when they suddenly stopped advancing while looking around. She couldn't help but get confused but quickly used the situation to run past them and join Liu Ye's side.

He didn't pay attention to her though and instead walked towards the four men and asked, "I wonder how many deaths will it take to bring you back to level 1. Want to find out?"
