Banished to Another World
Chapter 35: The story of Yan Mo and a monster bird that had to be told

Yuan Zhan slowed down after he ran out of energy.

The big bird that took the little slave away had flown off far away, it looked like a little black dot in the sky.

His little slave was gone……

Yuan Zhan suddenly crouched down. His hand, clenched into a fist, pressed hard on his left chest.

It’s strange. It’s like that time when he had learned that his father would never come back. That indescribable feeling again.

There’s clearly no injuries at his heart, but it hurt like someone was slowly tearing out the insides. And, like entering a barren desert and unable to find a place with water… he felt fear and despair.

Strange, why would he be scared? Because he’s going to be alone again?

It’s obviously just a slave, if he lost one, he’d raise another.

Because this was his first slave? Or because, for the first time, he had someone living that completely belongs to him?

Yuan Zhan stood up after a while. His expression seemed to have returned to his usual one, fierce and cold. But the gloomy look, as well as the tattoo and knife wound on his face made him seem like he could break into violence at any time.

He had dropped his spear. He had to go find his spear.

And, he had to find the Qianyangs……first……

Yuan Zhan stared at those sheep about a spear throw away from him and took a deep breath.

Seemed like he ended up running far away when chasing crazily just now. This place was not unfamiliar to him. Aside from going around the place before to chew on Water God tree leaves, that flock of Qianyang would often run to other places, this place was one of them.

Little slave said to follow the flock, and then?

Bending his back, Yuan Zhan stealthily got closer to the flock of Qianyangs. Today he wouldn’t hunt the sheeps, he’d only watch what they’re doing.

On the other side, Yan Mo had fainted from lack of oxygen in the middle of the bird’s flight.

So he had no clue how far the bird had flown him away and what sort of place it was taking him to. Until……

*Bump!*

The Big Bird’s claws loosened and the unconscious boy with extra holes on each side of his shoulder was thrown into a huge bird’s nest.

The holes that were spurting fresh blood were stopping, no more new blood came out. Those holes were closing bit by bit at a speed visible to the naked eye.

If someone was around right now, they would be surprised by the speed of this self-healing, but at present, there was only a strange-looking and scary huge monster bird in this huge nest.

The shock woke Yan Mo up. But he didn’t move. He lied on the ground pretending to be dead, peeking at the big bird near him to get a clearer picture of it.

When he saw it, he almost exposed the fact that he had awakened.

The bird moved too quickly when snatching him, he hadn’t had a good look at what the bird looked like before he was hoisted up to the sky, but now he could clearly see what the bird looked like. Now that he saw it, he’d rather he hadn’t.

This bird…… it had a face that looked like a human!

The face itself would look nice if it weren’t for that sharp mouth part with a little bend on the end. The strange combination of that mouth with that body, coupled with those pair of slanted-up smart-looking phoenix eyes, the clashing mess made people feel inexplicably creeped out.

The bird had tufts of feathers at its ear and head. Those feathers on top of its head stood high, while the long tail feathers fell naturally behind him. With that human-like face, it looked fancy and proud.

Aside from the three golden feathers on its head, the human-faced bird body was covered with shiny black feathers. The ones on the belly were lighter while the wings’ feathers looked darkest.

Its body was huge, even while crouching with its wings folded it was more than two metres high.

Yan Mo didn’t know how big this bird would be when those wings open fully. Unfortunately, he had been too startled then let himself drown in low mood, he hadn’t thought to look at the bird when he had the chance.

Turning his eyes to the big claws that could effortlessly pull even a human into the air, not only were they sturdy and powerful, the front ends had sharp curled nails. Those pair of legs were even thicker than the commonly seen big birds.

This bird… definitely eats human, doesn’t it? Yan Mo trembled slightly, from pain. His shoulders really hurt. If it was any other person their shoulders were guaranteed to be useless now, only he would be…… But, since they’re giving him the self-healing ability anyway, why couldn’t they include immunity to pain in the package?

He always felt his wounds hurt more compared to other people with same wounds, but he couldn’t be sure if he was right. But it’s not wholly impossible, with that old man god’s special brain circuit.

*Swiish!* The bird’s head suddenly turned and smart phoenix eyes suddenly met with his. It’s too late even if Yan Mo wanted to close his eyes.

The nest was big enough for a large human-faced bird to walk around in it.

Seeing that its prey was alive, the human-faced bird stood up and waddled over.

Yan Mo stared with wide eyes at the huge hooked beak slowly getting closer to himself.

*Poke*.

……Mm? Yan Mo was stunned. Was he just beaked by a bird?

Human-faced bird’s head tilted. The prey this time not only had sweeter blood than all the previous prey, it also hadn’t screamed off its head, crawled up to it and kowtow, or immediately attacked it like other two-legged monsters. This little two-legs was just lying there blankly staring at it.

It bowed its head and beaked the head of its prey again.

Yan Mo was actually very scared. The big yellow beak slightly glinted in the dark. Anyone who was poked by cold giant rock-like beak probably wouldn’t be feeling other emotions than scared.

Not that he didn’t want to attack. It’s just that his arm hurt too much, his injury was still affecting him. Even raising his arm was difficult.

As for why he didn’t scream or kick the bird’s human-like face, that was because he knew that when you see an animal and especially birds, you must never show any sign of aggression to it. You couldn’t even make little movements that can be seen as an attack. Of course, if you hadn’t been caught and was still far from the animal you could start off strong to scare them off.

Although Yan Mo might not escape the fate of being its food in the end, at least this would not cause the human-faced bird to get angry and attack back.

He didn’t run away, because he was right next to the edge of the nest. It’s difficult to even shrink back, he might as well stay put.

Even when the beak pecked at his face he is still thinking heroically: The worst thing that can happen was it taking a bite of me, anyway Laozi won’t die anytime soon. When my hands recover, even if I don’t know bird meridians, I’ll destroy your veins one day! As long as I’m still alive, it’s not over between us, just you wait!

And now…… he found that his gamble was right.

Yan Mo’s non-reaction made the bird calm too. It also didn’t seem to want to dig into his meat right now.

Because the human-faced bird poked at him again, this time not with its beak but its head. The bird rubbed against him with his ear side that had softer plumes.

Then, the yellow-crested human-faced bird sat down beside Yan mo, sticking close to him.

Yan mo: “……” So did this mean it wasn’t planning to eat him for the time being?

Ten minutes later, twenty minutes later…… Yan Mo fell asleep.

Staring at the enemy’s movement every second was very tiring and his lying posture wasn’t suitable for fighting. The nest was padded with dry plants and feathers, so much softer than all the times he slept with just an animal skin on the ground lately.

The bird next to him was too warm, the nest’s high walls around him blocked the cold wind outside while from the side, the setting sun fell on him……

Having such good facilities, coupled with his body that had lost a significant amount of blood, he didn’t think more even as his stomach grumbles before falling into the cradle of sleep.

Soon after Yan Mo fell asleep the human-faced bird stood up and looked down at the little two-legs lying there drooling in its sleep. The bird’s head raised and made somewhat happy-sounding coos.

The human-faced bird suddenly jumped up lightly, spread its wings and launched out of the nest.

The red shade gradually sank into the horizon, a peaceful yet dangerous veil of black gradually covered the sky.

The bird who ate its fill outside flew back into the nest with a bunch of yellow fruits before it got really dark. Since the little two-legs was still asleep, it threw the fruits to one side of the nest and sat again near the two-legged monster. Its head shuddered, and the bird closed its eyes to sleep.

The night passed and the day came back, morning mist rose. As the surroundings were getting brighter, Yan Mo woke up.

For a second, he didn’t know where he is.

What happened in his sleep!

“Ukh……” My neck! Because he had maintained the same posture lying down, now not only his neck hurt, his shoulders and back were all sore.

That’s right! Human-faced bird!

Yan Mo froze in one pose halfway through his thoughts.

He looked around, the big bird’s not in the nest.

Great! Now was his chance!

Yan Mo ignored the pain on his body and quickly climbed up.

Although the wall of the nest was relatively high, it could still be climbed because it was structured like a bowl.

Yan Mo didn’t even care about examining the whole nest clearly, he clawed in and grabbed, trying hard to climb up. Then, finally, he reached the high edge of the nest’s wall and his head stretched out……

To see an endless stretch of grassland, so vast his eyes couldn’t see the end of it. Because today’s weather was not too good, the distant mountains were shrouded in fog.

The river below looked like an ash blue dragon, with a body so long you couldn’t see the head and the tail. Because today the sun didn’t come out, there wasn’t much light reflected on the water, from this far it was as if it didn’t flow at all.

There were groups of animals moving within the grassland, they looked like a herd of wild horses? But the wild horses were far, far away from him. If his eyesight hadn’t been strengthened he wouldn’t have been able to distinguish that that small bean-sized blob was a horse. The distance he was talking about was not horizontal distance, but vertical distance.

This height, judging from the eye, it had to be more that 2 kilometres.

No wonder the human-faced bird dared to leave him alone in the nest, not worrying he would escape.

This bird’s nest was built…… on a gigantic pillar-like stone on top of a high mountain’s peak!

And this huge pillar perched on the edge of the cliff. South of the pillar, which was the side he is now looking at, was vertically connected to the mountain peak. If he jumped down from here he’d be a properly minced and kneaded meat ready to be made into dumplings when he reached the ground. He just wondered if he could still be alive after being smashed to that extent.

From what he could see, he found that the outermost edge of the bowl-shaped nest extended beyond the bottom of the ‘nest foot’. That was to say, even if he climbed out, there was no edge to stand on, he’d directly fall.

Yan Mo didn’t give up yet. He moved slowly and stretched out his head to check the other side of the nest.

The first thing he saw was the high altitude between the ground and the nest.

……Heh. In fact, if you want to escape from this nest, it’s beyond simple. Jump down from the edge with the nearest ground to nest distance. The distance is more than 100 metres vertical, as long as you’re not scared to jump, you are free.

Maybe he could tame the human-faced bird and make him take him out?

Yan Mo, who had jumped directly from despair to god-level brain, pretended he was fine and hummed the last song his favourite singer made before he died. He looked up to the vast land ahead in a manner like a prisoner in his free activity time would look at the scenery.

Approximately three minutes later, the human-faced bird who had went out to prey returned and saw the little two-legged monster in the nest far away. Its hair blown in all direction, face full of blood and dirt. The young-looking two legged monster’s hands clung to the edge of the nest, looking at the outside world dazedly.
