The main issue why people hate harems is because 99% of them are pure trash that display women as nothing but s*x dolls or brainless who instantly fall in love for no reason. If a harem is done good where every character are their own person and not just trinkets for the mc , i guarrantee people would not complain as much. But oh wait, if such a thing was possible then it wpuldnt exist because nonsuch woman with a personality stronger than that of the mc would accept being 'another' woman. Also because the relationship would be seen not just from the mc pov but from the women's too and who wants to share? Unless its a h*ntai w/ messed up excuse like 'hes too strong for me alone' Which lead back to the original point where most harems are just waifu collectors for h*rny readers. Which isnt wrong per se since these readers came for such content. Idk why my comment turned so philosophical and d*mn long. So, have a nice day. I don't think a person aware of reality would not understand that a harem is impossible, but I personally don't care if it's in a fantasy story, because after all that's what the genre exists for, to imagine unreal scenarios and our fantasies.

That is a yes for me. There are many ways to do a harem story, be it a wuxia or European fantasy harem. That and I feel like queens in the latter stories would have consorts the same as kings. Hell part of me is annoyed I've never seen a bisexual harem, you mean to tell me we can have human/vampire/beastman/orc/dwarf/elf/dragon harems, but the closest we get to adding men into it is the tomboy character?

theres a difference between a harem and an open relationship...in a harem theres a focal point, basically the main person be it male for female with multiple partners, while in an open relationship each individual can be with as many people as they choose.. Also the double standard is based on personal perspective, just like there is reverse harem and regular harem, I know girls that read reverse harem and regular harem and sum that cant read regular harem but still read reverse harem.. I see the same with guys, most prefer the regular harem cuz its a fantasy but that doesnt mean they mind women having their own harem, they just wont read a novel based on it and thats fine. Now, liking harems but not liking women to also have harems is contradictory and a double standard.
