Common Sense of a Duke’s Daughter
Chapter 54.1: Part 1

The person who entered was Dean .

“Ma~…are you leaving already? You had just arrived, though . ”

“Eh~ . This time, I had something to report to Ojousama and so I left my home for a bit . ”

“Is that so . …I’m sorry for troubling you . And so what was it that you forgot to report to me, Dean?”

“…the children at the orphanage (TL: Can someone check if the others called it the orphanage?) said that they wanted to meet you . It seems like they wanted to show you their results at the school recital . ”

“Recital! What will they do?”

A~, speaking of that, I hadn’t been visiting the orphanage . Before I went to the royal capital, I had been going once every 10 days .

“If I remember correctly, things like plays, art, and singing . It seems like they had separated into many groups . ”

“Maa~…I must go see that . I’ll visit them when things calm down . ”

Although I want to go, it is impossible right now . Surely, the guards won’t allow me to head out . And I, myself, can’t allow the children to be in danger .

“……by calm down, you don’t just mean the fief and the commerce right?”

My thoughts stopped for a moment at Dean’s casual words . …Ah, leaving such a strange pause will be like I agree with what he had said! Looking back at myself, I started regretting my action .

“Why do you think that?”

Though I know it is a useless struggle, I unconsciously asked him about his thoughts .

“I can already imagine why seeing Lyle and Dida’s expressions when they entered this room . And there was also the talk about how you were attacked .

“……Well, that is true . ”

Already, Dean is quick-witted so it is perhaps already impossible to hide it when he has come this close .

“Moreover, Ojou-sama, your expression . It doesn’t seem like the expression when you immerse yourself in the documents and the commerce…you seem like you were scared of terror with anxiety . ”

……I give up . For him to guess my emotions this far, I don’t even feel like arguing about it .

“Ne~ Dean . And so, why did you come all the way here to tell me that?”

Even if he didn’t know that my opponent was the Queen, he should have already known that my position right now is very unstable . If you think about what happened before, it can’t be helped that you leave already . For him to come all the way back to tell me that, or maybe, this itself is the farewell gift?

“Of course that is so that we can go together when Ojou-sama’s situation calms down . ”

To his surprising words, for a moment, my head could not catch the meaning behind it .

“……Dean . Are you seriously saying that?”

“Of course I’m serious . Or else, I won’t come all the way back to tell you this . ”

“……I had thought, you would have left this place already . ”

“Did I seem that much of a heartless person to you?”

On the other hand, my eyes were open wide in surprise . Were my words that surprising?

“Before even saying that you’re cold-hearted, I believed that you had no reason to stay . In the first place, my contract with you was a short-termed so you had no obligations to stay . And if it’s you, you can even get a reward even if you sign a contract elsewhere . There is no need to stay in such a dangerous place . ”

Of course, in his contract, there was an agreement on a reward . The reward was a little higher than an ordinary officer since he was working as my right-hand assistant with organizing the fief . However, even if the reward is higher, the income of a secretary is not high in the first place . I think the advisors of companies have high income if you look at the money itself . The only merit of a fief advisor that I can think of is being able to make sure the fief doesn’t collapse . But, he wasn’t even a resident in the first place so he can’t even have that merit .
