Having read up to Ch. 1074, this series has some great ideas, but suffers from bloat. Positives: Li Yao is an interesting protagonist and actively strives to do the right thing. He's somewhat hot-blooded, at least in the beginning, but is fairly likable all around. Furthermore, the series undermines a lot of the standard cultivation tropes and makes the effort to tailor them and examine them somewhat critically, at least to an extent. It also makes the effort to make use of a lot of small details and connect plot points from one arc to the next, such that things that feel important do actually become important. There's also a sweet romance set up with no harem. Even the setting is carefully thought through and interesting! Negatives: Everything is paced rather weirdly. It starts off fine in the beginning, even up to the first 600-700 chapters, but then everything starts moving at such a bizarrely quick pace that the audience is barely able to hold on. By the time I got to ch. 1, 000, there were several main plot threads as well as side plots to keep track of that it just felt like too much. In other words, arcs aren't really given time to breathe, and neither is Li Yao: he just keeps getting thrust into the next thing and it feels unfocused. Instead of being engaging, it's overwhelming. Also, the side characters have interesting premises but are often abandoned after the arc. They get mentioned later, but Li Yao gets into a situation, makes friends, the friends help him with his situation, and then they're relegated to footnotes at best later, which is a real shame because many of these people are genuinely interesting. Finally, Li Yao wins A LOT in the beginning chapters, as in he has very few real setbacks toward achieving his goals. When he does lose, there is real growth, but those moments are very few and far between. In general, this series has a lot of fun ideas, but trying to incorporate too many plot threads at once made me put it down. If you're a fan of intrigue, somewhat convoluted plots, a clever protag, and actual troupe subversion though, this series could definitely be one you'll enjoy.

The main characters shamelessness and "unconventional" approaches to problems alone make this an 5/5. The overall plot can feel a bit stretched or drawn out especially with some chapters being a purely philosophical discussion about the mc being faced with choices and having to rationalize his choice. I really liked these chapters, but they may not be for everyone. The novel also has some good humor and funny situations so its not too dry. Overall, it follows a zero to hero - type scheme but the fights and twists and turns make it really interesting. Sometimes the villains may even compromise in the face of another great danger which makes it less stale compared to other types of novels. All in all, I think this is a fantastic novel with interesting ideas and characters.

This story initially begins like many other cultivation tales, introducing us to a world with a unique futuristic backdrop. However, it swiftly veers off the expected path and presents us with a cultivation narrative unlike the ones we are accustomed to. The futuristic setting plays a significant role in this deviation, but what truly sets it apart is the divergence from the typical progression of events seen in other stories of the genre. Unlike the familiar pattern of arriving at a new stage, inadvertently insulting someone, engaging in a face-off, seeking revenge against an individual and their supporters, completely overpowering opponents, and then moving on to the next stage to repeat the process, this story takes a refreshing turn. The MC, surprisingly, finds themselves rarely having to engage in lethal combat with fellow humans throughout the story's progression thus far. This deviation from the norm is what truly captivates me as a reader. It breaks away from the predictable formula and offers a more nuanced and multifaceted exploration of cultivation. Instead of resorting to constant violence, the story delves into other aspects of cultivation, allowing the MC to navigate challenges and conflicts through alternative means. This approach adds depth and complexity to the narrative, enabling the exploration of different facets of character development, personal growth, and the acquisition of power. Furthermore, the unique futuristic world building contributes to the distinctive flavor of the story. It introduces a fresh and intriguing backdrop that sets the stage for the cultivation journey. The fusion of cultivation elements with futuristic concepts enhances the overall reading experience, bringing forth a sense of novelty and expanding the possibilities within the story's universe. In summary, this story distinguishes itself from typical cultivation narratives by deviating from the established pattern. The infrequent use of lethal combat and the exploration of alternative methods to overcome challenges add layers of complexity to the plot. The incorporation of a futuristic setting further elevates the story, providing a unique backdrop that enhances the overall reading experience. For those seeking a refreshing take on the cultivation genre, this story offers a delightful departure from the norm.

The beginning of the story is amazing one if the best things iv read entertainment wise but later on when he keeps going into new sectors/ areas of space/whatever it follows the same pattern over and over again he's at the bottom of the power ladder he infiltrates becomes stronger becomes one of the leaders then somehow integrates that society with earth making earth stronger because it gains all of that sectors unique tech cultivation techniques man power etc. . . which earth does need because there is something they will need to go to war against I havent gotten that far yet I'm just warning about the repetitiveness iv seen so far otherwise it's a solid read

I’m writing this review as of a few hundred chapters in and I have almost no complaints. Solid world building and character building.
It also ignores a lot of tropes that always bother me in cultivating novels, such as young master is jealous so I’m gonna try to ruin your life, over and over. All of the characters are pretty patriotic and while may be at ends with protagonist they aren’t tryna kill the guy, more professional competition.
A lot of the novel is very slow paced but the upside of that is how well flushed out the book is, there’s some deus ex machina but you can’t really avoid that completely in any supernatural book.

TLDR: I heavily recommend this novel, very enjoyable and no downsides imo.

This is by far the best novel I have read, I recommend it to anyone.
Try it, this novel will surprise you with the incredible plot it has.

I will not talk about the novel because you deserve the pleasure of reading this without any spoilers.

PD: Don't read the Manga and do not search for it (garbage compared to the novel)

He is little bit too patriotic, Cosidering how the society treated him like garbage

FYI to future readers, I honestly take this as one of the best points for the story - the MC is one of the only honest to gods good people I've ever read in xianxia. I know people around here have a RI b*n*r, but that's because for some reason they view other xianxia MCs as weak good people when in fact they are objectively horrible and mildly hypocritical. If Fang Yuan is the epitome of an evil MC done well, this is a good MC done right.
