Overall, It was great, and I enjoyed it a lot, but I personally don't think it deserves its current ranking. I've read "The good for nothing seventh young lady" from the same author and inside the same universe, and I think it deserves much higher ranking that this piece of letdown. Also, you might want to read(or finish) "The good for nothing seventh young lady" first, before this one. It will help you understand this novel better, a lot better. I can't say anymore as I'm trying hard to keep it spoiler free, so just trust me on this and read the seventh young lady first. Oh I almost forgot. There's a manhua adaptation for this novel, but DO NOT READ IT! The story deviated too much and it's seriously different from the novel, even character's characteristics are often different. If you've read the manhua and are wondering where to pick it up from, throw every bit of the manhua out of your mind and read the novel from chapter 1.

No spoilers The story and its scale grew bigger, and aslo author's missteps. There's a lot of loopholes and "bugs" in the story, characters and routes forgotten by the author and repetitious events, coming up again and again. As chapters went by, I got more and more weary. For the last 600 or so, I had to drag and force myself to read it. Even so, I suggest it. It was still exciting enough. The ending, it was HORRIBLE! There was no shadow of the brilliant author who wrote this masterpiece. It was more like a teenage fan fantasizing, creating a childish abomination, mixed of other stories. Around the last 100 chapters or so, it was obvious that the author was facing a complicated mess, not knowing the way out. With an attitude of getting the novel out of their hair ASAP, they made things up on a whim, unexplained, unrelated, and laughable "facts", just to patch the ending together. It was so cliche, so childish, so sloppy, and so utterly disappointing.. (The overall in the next comment

The story starts off interesting, another take at how the smart female lead that outwits the opponents. I'm up to chapter 750 or so. The only gripe I have is that the FL plans usually are full of holes. On plenty of occasions, the male lead has to come in to 'save the damsel in distress' at critical moments, so as to prevent the female lead from suffering critical damage. This just undermines the FL's use - if her plans don't work, plot armor (aka ML) comes to save the day. It makes what was the shining point of the story (the cleverness of the FL) turn into a joke - FL's plans don't work, so all there's left is plot armor. The tropes don't work that well either. For example, FL gets bullied at academy due to 'misunderstanding' caused by the Headmaster of the academy - but the reason given feels very contrived (we will let the world know FL is no longer the disciple of the Headmaster... only to just take her back in suddenly). This misunderstanding could have easily been avoided.

Took a while to finish but I still loved the way it ended and pretty good read as well. Would have never thought that JWY was actually "him" though. Should have known but still liked the surprise iykyk
