This is a fantastic novel! The main character is smart and strong. The cultivation systems are interesting. The world building is good. The story is entertaining. The painting element was unique and fun. There are a few things that are not so good with the story. First of all, it follows a classic “becoming endlessly stronger” plot, with the mc facing few setbacks, but it wasn’t that bad. He also gets a lot of stuff just handed to him. His wife is basically forgotten later on, only to be returned to every once in a while. I also wish the ending wasn’t that abrupt, I was looking forward to the rest of that story. Overall, it was a fantastic read, although it did leave some things to be desired. But I guess nothing is perfect. 8/10

So our MC is basically a Dog Who only follows order he left his wife because they told him to, he is going to leave his father and clan people to their fate because they told him to, he doesn't have free will basically a slave. Is this CCP Propaganda to show us the ideal Slave/Soldier.

Dude are you for real?, because I'm sure there's an anti-hero tag on that novel and typically they are selfish and have independent thinking capacity. Also it's on my reading list so I was thinking of reading it, but if the MC's personality is like this novel than I wont read it

MC of shadow slave has an ability that places requirements on him, like not lying and if someone becomes his master by saying his true name, he can't disobey them. This is all explained like 20 chapters in. He still has free thinking abilities, is very intelligent, treacherous, intuitive and pulls his weight in the teams he's a part of.

That's why I don't really like this romance, I don't know why people love this romance when the MC is a slave who has no freedom and can't lie 🤦

Idk, at the point where the romance does actually happen he is neither a slave nor unable to lie...

Im talking post third nightmare tho... The romance really happened during the godgrave war. At that point he isnt a slave anymore and wears weavers mask basically the whole time...

I mean there are plenty of novels with meaningless title so I just don't take them seriously. By the way I thought that MC was true Anti-Hero type with some emotions mixed in but alas...

And on top of everything he is betrayed but he doesn't kill the b*tch who betrayed him, he leaves her alive and then still becomes friends with her🤦😮‍💨💀

I thought so too, but that's just the beginning, the beginning is wonderful, but then it just gets worse, it seems like the author used all his intelligence in the first nightmare, then the MC seems to be too dumb.

People read shadow slave because its fast update and because its a trend for newbies reader, but other than that the novel is pretty average , its basically a cultivation novel in disguise

this sounds boring and straightforward. is the story literally just what's in the description or are there twists?

Finished 7/19/2024. Enjoyable read, From the beginning to near the end. The ending tho... Oof. it left a bitter taste in my mouth. If you are ready to turn a blind eye to a not too good of a ending, I can say you will enjoy this novel.

its very similar to many dao type chinese novels. there is the mortal world (usually just a large planet), then there is the outer realm area which is within the home universe but very large and houses the mid range 'top of their home world' cultivators (these beings cultivate things like laws of concepts like space and time sh*t like that, rather than the basic sh*t you do on the home planet). and then it gets to outside of the home universe, where the cultivators are basically just gods that can blink and destroy universes. The mc is rather friendly, especially to his loved ones, this is not an evil mc, but does some questionable things. the novel is rushed toward the ending, the last 200 chapters were noticeably worse than the first 400 chapters but still good enough to finish the novel.
