The Ant King (왕) was an immensely powerful Magic Beast born from the Ant Queen on Jeju Island where an S-Rank Gate had opened. The Ant Queen, who was monitored 24 hours a day by a Japanese satellite, showed a massive decline in its magical energy. It was later learned that this was due to the Ant Queen birthing her strongest child, the Ant King, for the sole purpose of beating strong Hunters. The King was one of the few magic beasts capable of communicating with Sung Jin-Woo similar to Baruka of the Red Gate and Kargalgan. Through his ability, Gluttony, the Ant King was able to learn human languages including Korean after devouring powerful S-Rank hunters. It is one of the most powerful magic beasts introduced within the series, with no hunters present during the Jeju Island Raid being able to fight against it, excluding Sung Jin-Woo. The Ant King is the primary antagonist of the Jeju Island Arc. To view the entire article, click Ant King.

Summary

10 years ago, after “the Gate” that connected the real world with the monster world opened, some of the ordinary, everyday people received the power to hunt monsters within the Gate. They are known as “Hunters”. However, not all Hunters are powerful. My name is Sung Jin-Woo, an E-rank Hunter. I’m someone who has to risk his life in the lowliest of dungeons, the “World’s Weakest”. Having no skills whatsoever to display, I barely earned the required money by fighting in low-leveled dungeons… at least until I found a hidden dungeon with the hardest difficulty within the D-rank dungeons! In the end, as I was accepting death, I suddenly received a strange power, a quest log that only I could see, a secret to leveling up that only I know about! If I trained in accordance with my quests and hunted monsters, my level would rise. Changing from the weakest Hunter to the strongest S-rank Hunter!

Having consumed every piece of media related to SL, I can say that the story is decent, but not that good. If not for the art of the manwha, I prolly never would've found this novel

I’ve read the Manhwa over a dozen times and the first season and what’s out of the second season of the anime and after watching the recent episode I was hungering for more. So I decided to pickup the web novel to see the differences between the adaptations. And I’ve been enjoying it so far I would recommend anyone who has watched the anime or read the Manhwa to also read the web novel.

Well since the anime has become popular the WebNovel and light novels should be receiving attention and care but it feels like people don’t care to read the authors original work which saddens me. People watching don’t understand the intricacies of the WebNovel genre and the subtle references everywhere in the story. But at the same time maybe this and other gems are better left to those who appreciate them than mainstream people. I just wished people would appreciate it more. It has become an anime and not a novel like it was meant to be. It’s been many years ago I read this novel and have re read it many times so just wanted to leave a comment.

I've finished reading the manhwa and looking through the novels. What is the difference between novels and manhwa? Is the story the same or is something cut? are novels better?

usually there is more info in the novel than in manhwa or anime. You get to actually see the thought process of MC sometimes unlike in manga where MC does something without explaining why. So in terms of info novel > manhwa > anime. although not common, there are also times where the manhwa diverges from the novel. Like in The World After the Fall, after a certain chapter, the manhwa diverges and adds events that didn't happen in the novel. In some novels (like TNE) where characters aren't described on appearance, manhwa has visuals that's basically it. there might be a few more differences but it really depends on TL, Author, and Artist (for manhwa)

And don't forget there are differences between Webnovel and light novel. If I remember right the Webnovel is often the raw source. Light novel is often a corrected version of it and maybe some plot changes. Mangas and animes often use the light novel as source, not the Webnovel.

lol, I didn't forget about webnovels/comics, I just was simply not aware of them. I only frequent manga and light novels, and honestly I don't care enough to check out the webnovels since they are apparently just rough drafts. Also, I would like to point out that the original dude was specifically asking for the diff between novel and manga, so he didn't exactly need an explanation on webnovels anyway you are right, you taught me a bit so thanks I guess.

Novel is usually the source material. Basically some stuff is usually cut in other adaptations.

I think what scares me is that after becoming a book devourer, this novel is short to me. Like incredibly short.
